Johns Creek SAT Prep & Tutoring offers a unique 24-hour course for students to either review last year's critical math skills OR look forward to next year's math class by learning the essential/critical Georgia Performance Standards for that course ("Math GPS").

Limited resources for teachers, larger class size, and a much tougher integrated (non-sequential) curriculum has proven to be extremely challenging for many students.  Johns Creek SAT PREP & Tutoring has had great success with students in these courses.  Our teachers, who currently teach these courses, know exactly which academic content and skills are critical for ongoing student success.

Our goal is for students to build confidence and master these essential skills, while having fun in an engaging learning environment! A little bit of work this summer will prove to be priceless during the school year.  The price of our classes include all materials/handouts, etc.  Students will have small homework assignments during this two week period.  Courses will either be offered in the mornings (9:00 a.m. - noon) or in the afternoon (1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.), depending on enrollment preferences.

Students will have 24 hours of certified instruction (in a classroom setting with no more than 12 students); 3 hours of instruction each day, Monday - Thursday, for two weeks.  Our certified teachers will teach the essential skills critical for success in a fun and engaging environment.

Math 1 "GPS Algebra" (2 Weeks, 24 Hours of Instruction):
We will teach and review the following concepts:

• Simplifying and operations with radical expressions, polynomials and rational expressions.
• Solving simple equations.
• Solving quadratic equations using factoring.
• Solving simple radical equations and solving problems involving simple radical equations.
• Representing and operations with complex numbers.
  
• Investigating step and piecewise functions and absolute value functions.
• Exploring exponential functions.
• Analyzing quadratic functions in the forms f(x) = ax^2+ bx + c and f(x) = a(x – h)^2+ k.
• Solving quadratic equations and inequalities in one variable.
• Exploring inverses of functions.
• Introduction to data analysis and probability (introduce the concept of mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc.).
  

Math 2 "GPS Geometry" (2 Weeks, 24 Hours of Instruction):
We will teach and review the following concepts:

• Investigating properties of geometric figures in the coordinate plane.
• Understanding and using the language of mathematical argument and justification.
• Discovering and applying properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons.
• Identifying and using the properties of special right triangles.
• Defining and applying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios to right triangles.
• Introduction to the properties of circles (terminology, definitions, etc.).
